We’re delighted to announce we have finally got round to penning our difficult second album, 1000 Trades on the Park.

It’s quite different to our current home in the JQ but we hope just as interesting and quirky. Why ‘the park’? Well, we’re taking over part of the jewel-like Lightwoods House, perched in its splendour overlooking the eponymous park in Bearwood – just over 3 miles from our existing site near the centre of Brum.

Lightwoods House dates back to the late 18th century and was built by a maltster, in acres of fields and woodland. Then the Industrial Revolution happened and it all got swallowed up. The building has a varied and sometimes chequered history, but is obviously an important local landmark, being listed way back in 1949. Today it’s very much part of the locale, owned and run by Sandwell Council for the benefit of the community: you can see what’s going on via the Lightwoods House website, and we will be very much part of all this.

TWO BIG THINGS

ONE What about the food? Well we’re excited to have signed up Dan Lee, winner of Masterchef 2021, as our executive head chef. Dan has many strings to his bow beyond his signature pan-Asian offerings, and is hard at work developing a seasonal menu to showcase the best aspects of proper pub food with a touch of class.

TWO You can get married there. The setting really is delightful and includes the walled ‘Shakespeare Garden’ out back. And we/Dan are doing the food for it. Should be good right?

WHEN ARE WE OPENING?

We’re working hard with all those contractors, seamstresses and interior people and we hope to be opening our doors sometime in April. See you there?

In the meantime, here’s our handy cut-out-and-keep guide to what you can expect:

Different

  • No guest chefs – instead an evolving ‘posh pub food’ menu
  • BBQs to sizzle the summer days
  • Loads more outside seating….and ice cream
  • More of a café feel during the daytimes. Locally-made cakes and other delights.
  • More friendly for children, families and their moms/dads (at least during the day)
  • You can get married there and it won’t be illegal
  • It's a park silly

The same

  • Lots of lovely local craft beer that changes all the time
  • Sunday roasts to the max
  • 11 natural wines on tap
  • POSH Hot Sandwiches during the day to eat in, takeaway or open your door to
  • Plenty of events an’ stuff…when we get our feet under the desk properly
  • Quality and variety (that’s our mantra, by the way)
  • We remain dog friendly
