Birmingham Jazz Presents: Maciek Pysz & Yuri Goloubev 7.45pm

Well known for his work with Gwilym Simcock, Tim Garland & Jason Rebello, bassist Yuri Goloubev brings his perfect pitch, stunning execution & lyricism to a new duo with virtuoso guitarist Maciek Pysz whose unique sound & heartfelt compositions have been delighting audiences around the UK & Europe for years in the many bands he has led on tour. Here they explore a fusion of jazz, world and classical music and new arrangements of their own compositions. Drawing inspiration from the DIY Bar in Portland, Oregon, USA – Crafty Sip sessions are a fun way to spend a few hours ‘crafting’ with your friends on a sociable level. ·       Get yourself printed in 3D. Your own ‘mini-me’ created by Walsall creative start up Get Cloned, using the latest scanning and 3D printing technology (1-4pm)

·       Live jazz courtesy of 1000 Trades favourite Chris Young and some of our multi-talented bar staff (3-5pm)

·       ‘Tear a Strip Off John’ + Beer Bingo. Watch a grown man cry, as 1000 Trades’ John gets waxed within an inch of his life, part deux.  All proceeds to the Nepal Youth Foundation, which offers hope and opportunity to Nepal’s most impoverished children by providing them with vital healthcare, education and a safe environment. 1000 Trades Presents: A Disco Spectacular 9pm–2am

To round off our Summer Party 2019 we’re delighted to host two well-established doyens of d-i–s-c-o to light up your evening and loosen your feet…with almost 25 years of DJing under his belt, Beane Noodler co-promotes the long running Soul Buggin’ night (now in its 15th year) and played alongside just about everyone from Andrew Weatherall, Mr Scruff, Gilles Peterson, Benji B, Jazzanova and many more. Half Sri-Lankan, half Scottish DJ S/A/M has been playing bars, parties, clubs and warehouses since early 2000s and has guested at the likes of Croatia’s Garden Festival, Amsterdam’s Supperclub, Ibiza’s Cafe Malanga and across Sri Lanka. Fine artist, dancer, film maker and occasional poet, Saranjit Birdi takes over tonight with some talented friends and literally dances his way through the evening, with musicians, singers, some wonderful experimental film shorts and and a whole lot of fun. Birmingham Jazz Presents: Nikki Iles Trio with Stan Sulzman 7.45pm

Despite a long-standing musical friendship and frequent collaborations, it has been almost 20 years since Stan and Nikki recorded their first album “Treasure Trove” together. Their offering, “Stardust”, celebrated a shared love of songs, as well as featuring an original composition from each was released in 2015.  They are joined here by the world renowned Bass Player Gave Green.

Saxophonist Stan Sulzmann and pianist Nikki Iles are iconic figures on the UK jazz scene composing and playing in their own distinctive contemporary styles. Despite a long-standing musical friendship and frequent collaborations, it has been almost 20 years since Stan and Nikki recorded their first album Treasure Trove. It is a shared love of the Standard Jazz Repertoire that brought them together for their last album Stardust. Birmingham’s much-missed jazz and funk bar lives on….Ollie Lloyd brings the funky hybrid sounds of The Yardbird for the latest instalment of DJ sessions, digging deep into his record collection to create the trademark Yardbird sound of dusty deep funk, latin, dancefloor jazz and instrumental grooves! As part of the annual #JQFestival 1000 Trades is hosting a number of events including:

·       Get yourself printed in 3D created by Walsall creative start up Get Cloned, using the latest scanning and 3D printing technology

·       1000 Trades Food and Drink Emporium on the first floor, featuring live beermaking demo with Birmingham Amateur Brewers, Mead tasting with The Vanguard, introduction to sour beer with Siren Craft Brew, Journeys Through Naural Wine with Wine Freedom and Slow Food Hub with Slow Food Birmingham.

·       Jewellery Quarter Lettering Workshop with Townscape Heritage, an introduction to traditional sign writing in the Jewellery Quarter and beyond with Jim Kerr from Seven 9 Signs (Sun)

·       Birmingham Tap Takeover As part of Brewery Quarter, highlighting the four breweries on our doorstep, we’ll also be dedicating all of our remaining taps to the best of what Birmingham has to offer, including Dig Brew, Fixed Wheel and Birmingham Brewing Company
