We are working with a local artist, Helen Miles, utilising the pictures of Brumpic, to create a mural that depicts – according to local historian Jon Bounds – the ten historical moments that did most to form the contemporary Brummie mind. At this event, we will launch the mural – with a speech on its content from Jon Bounds. And a DJ set to follow from our resident DJs, Birmingham International.
This mural is part of the contribution of 1000 Trades to Birmingham Heritage Week – we are also organsing a music themed walking tour of the Jewellery Quarter, led by Jez Collins, founder of the Birmingham Music Archive – with over 20 years of experience as a social and cultural entrepreneur in the creative, and particularly music, industries in Birmingham.
Jon Bounds was voted the ’14th Most Influential Person the West Midlandss’ in 2008. Subsequently not placed. In 2014 he published 101 Things Birmingham Gave the World, with a foreword written by Stewart Lee. He brings this Brum knowledge to our mural.
